If you want to know how to market your MLM business, and to stop the bleeding with dropouts in your downline, then there are 3 cardinal “rookie mistakes” that you absolutely need to avoid.

I call these cardinal “rookie mistakes” not just because they are made by the majority of new network marketers, but more because they are made due to people’s companies and uplines TELLING THEM to do these things! Yes, unfortunately, the majority of new network marketers do the wrong things to market their MLM businesses because they are doing what their uplines tell them to do. So if you have been doing any of these things to market your MLM business, don’t feel badly because it is not your fault and you are not alone.

Cardinal Mistake #1 – Leading With The Opportunity: One of the cornerstones of what new network marketers are taught — and how you were likely taught to market your MLM — is to lead with the business opportunity when you approach prospects. This is a huge mistake. The best leads (or prospects) are not the ones who are looking for a business opportunity. They are the ones who are looking for the BENEFITS your product(s) offers and/or for a solution to a problem that your product(s) can provide. You will get about the same number of “business builders” in your downline regardless, but when you lead with product instead of the opportunity, you get a much more loyal downline (and, by extension, a much lower dropout rate).

Cardinal Mistake #2 – Chasing The Opportunity Seekers: Another thing you want to avoid doing when you are trying to learn how to market your MLM business is to write your marketing materials to attract opportunity seekers. So if you are writing a capture page or creating PPC ads or any other marketing materials, you do not want to talk about “making money” or anything else related to the business building side of your business. The best thing I can teach you about how to build your MLM business is to gear all of your copy towards positioning yourself as an expert who has a solution to a problem that people have or who has a benefit that people are looking to get. Again, you will still get business builders, but you will avoid those who have no attachment to your product and will leave your business as soon as a better opportunity comes along.

Cardinal Mistake #3 – Positioning Your Upline As The Experts: The last mistake you want to avoid as you are learning how to market your MLM business, is to allow your upline to lead you astray in terms of letting them “take the reigns” in any of your marketing. So if you are doing home parties, do not let your upline come in and host them for you. If you are doing briefing calls with prospects, do not do a 3-way call where your upline leads the call. These are a mistake because it positions your upline – not YOU — as the expert. People buy from those whom they see as the expert. You want to attract and build a list based on people viewing you a top expert in your niche. You will build a loyal list who trust you that way. That is how you market your MLM business.
