Just about all you need to do to succeed at email marketing is give, give, give.
And not only that, you have to give it all freely. You have to provide your opt in email marketing list with an incredible amount of FREE valuable content. Only after a period of generous giving will you be able to ask the people on your direct email marketing list for anything, let alone to shell out some money for you or one of the products you are an affiliate for.
There’s one big simple reason why this works. People aren’t going to buy from you unless they like and trust you. People aren’t going to like and trust you if you just keep asking for things. Think about it in your personal life…
Who do you like more, who are better friends- people who are always taking or people who are always giving? Maybe you’re a little more masochistic than I am, but I really like people that give a lot more than they take.
And when someone who is always giving asks for something in return, aren’t you a lot more likely to give to them than to someone who is always asking for something?
You want to build that kind of relationship with your bulk email marketing list if you want to succeed with email list marketing. You want to be close to them, and you want to be that friend who is generous almost to a fault. And then when you actually do make them an offer or ask that they purchase your book, you’ll have a much easier time getting your list to open their wallets.
Yeah, part of it will be due to obligation, whether conscious or subconscious. But a lot of it is just trust and appreciation. If you are always giving out valuable content for free, then if you are asking people on your direct email marketing list to spend money they will feel that the content you’re selling is going to be that much better and more valuable.
Plus, there will be plenty of people who just jump at the chance to be able to pay you back for all the good that you’ve provided for them. Opt in email marketing is simple and effective when you approach it with this mindset.
