When talking about affiliate marketing, there aren’t a whole lot of complicated ideas to discuss. It involves the use of indirect or direct advertising by affiliates who specifically target consumers that have an interest in partaking of a company’s services. Affiliates are then rewarded based on the number of consumers that they can send to the company. An affiliate may use different means of getting consumers to go to the company’s site.
There are four core players to affiliate marketing. These four are what builds the whole process of affiliate marketing itself. They are the merchant, the network, the publisher, and of course the customers. But let’s take a closer look into what exactly the four core players do, and how they work in tandem with each other.
The Retailer: The Retailer is the product provider, or the site owner. They are the reason why affiliates strive for newer and more innovative methods of advertising. They pay-off affiliates by giving them a commission for every new customer that may use the services of the website owner.
The network: The network provides tracking software and statistics when doing business with affiliates and progress reports on how well strategies worked. They can also provide new affiliates for the company to use, so that expansion becomes easier.
The publisher/affiliate: their main job is to promote the company’s product or service. Usually, they employ the use of online marketing to help them get the word out: making content sites, taking part in forum discussions, social networks, or even just directly emailing with shared interest in the product.
The consumer/target: This is self explanatory. The consumer is the aim of affiliate marketers to get as much as they can. The more customers that are directed to the main site and how often those customers actually purchase a product or avail of a service, the bigger an affiliate is rewarded. Of course, only consumers who are interested or have a need of the service or product are directed to the company.
These are the four primary players when using an affiliate marketing strategy, but how exactly can this work for you? If you turn back the pages on business history, then you’ve probably seen that the primary method of marketing back then was always direct advertising. When an ad sees any success, it’s followed by a good influx of word-of-mouth consumers that heard about the new product from people who have used it. This was basically a young version of affiliate marketing.
Today, however, there is the Internet that can be relied upon to further increase the renown of any one company. Affiliate marketing is the best among these because it’s subtle and simple yet effective; also, using a separate division of people who have experience in diverting web traffic into websites can produce some great results. They usually employ ideas similar to direct advertisement in that they involve the product itself in whatever they may be talking about.
Their methods usually include a variety of old and new strategies that work in tandem, resulting in some great output. From doing reviews of products, to organic search engine optimization, even using email marketing that skips all other variables and goes directly to the consumer’s inbox. Some prominent sites that started out using affiliate marketing are Amazon.com and other e-retailers that rely on web-traffic to sell their products. All these methods combined make it easier for them to get you the consumers you need, thus getting you the bigger cut of the revenue, so make sure you use affiliate marketing to your advantage!
